Success Stories & Testimonials

CarsonCarson Miller is a five-year-old child that has been coming to the Child Life Center since June 2002. Carson has global delays and is diagnosed with a seizure disorder and due to hydrocephalus, has a shunt in place. He also has a history of three pre-natal strokes and has been diagnosed with Nystagmus. When the doctor placed Carson’s first shunt, he was three weeks old. Doctors said that an adult with this amount of brain damage would probably be in a vegetative state.

Carson is currently receiving speech, occupational, physical, and vision therapies. His classmates love playing with him and equally benefit from their interactions. Carson has delays, but is making constant progress. He is sitting and walking with the assistance of a walker, crawling, jabbering and seems to comprehend quite a bit. His favorite expression is “I’m good!” and loves to growl to show the sound that the Incredible Hulk makes!

AllisonAllison Parker is a two-year-old child that has been at the Child Life Center since August 2004. She was three months premature and spent nearly three months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She weighed in at only one pound 12 ounces and had surgery to close a blood vessel that failed to close after birth before being released from the hospital.

Allison’s doctors originally said she would be severely developmentally delayed because she was so premature and was on a ventilator for two months. Today, Allison is totally caught up on her developmental milestones and is just a little small for her age. She has overcome enormous odds and does most things that any two year old would do, such as eating table foods, walking, and playing with her classmates.

Our daughter, Addison, has attended the Child Life Center for four years. We love the highly-trained devoted staff and the state-of-the-art facility, but we especially appreciate the inclusive aspect with special needs children interacting with typically developing children. Addison always looks forward to going to the Child Life Center, and we are assured that she is receiving the best care in Evansville!
